Pricing trend shows growing acceptance of DDR2.

The recent rally of DDR2 pricing, especially for effectively tested (eTT) chips, may portend the the growth of DDR2 penetration in the channel, rather than only in the PC OEM segment. Spot prices of 512 Mb DDR2 chips have been increasing since early July, with the latest quote on July 19 being $4.30, representing 19% growth in just 12 days, according to figures posted by DRAMeXchange.

AMD to launch virtualization platform in H1 2006.

Following Intel"s announcement of a virtualization technology for its processors, AMD today announced that it will make its virtualization approach available for Opteron processors next month.

Intel intros HPC developer tools.

Intel is shipping five new software development tools that promise developers of supercomputing and distributed high performance computing (HPC) software environments to accelerate and simplify the creations of applications. As a result the new "Cluster Tools" help to reduce the costs of software development. The new products include Trace Analyzer and Collector 6.0, Message Passing Interface (MPI) Library 2.0, Math Kernel Library (MKL) Cluster Edition 8.0, Integrated Performance Primitives (IPP) 5.0 and VTune Performance Analyzer for Linux 8.0. Intel said that all components can be used in conjunction with other popular software development tools.
