Network Instruments Designated VMware Technology Alliance Partner

Observer Platform Provides VMware Users Seamless Performance Management in Virtual and Physical Environments MINNEAPOLIS, MN, October 29, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Network Instruments, a worldwide leader in network and application performance management, today announced that it has been selected as a VMware Technology Alliance Partner. VMware awarded the designation to Network Instruments based on its Observer performance management platform, which provides seamless visibility and in-depth analysis of application performance and traffic in virtualized and physical environments. Observer"s virtual monitoring capabilities go beyond traditional analyzers which provide limited views of virtualized networks. Network teams using Observer access a complete, integrated view of virtual traffic traversing physical networks, between different virtual machine hosts, and between virtual machines on the same host. Further, all virtual traffic and communications flowing within the virtual machine host can be copied and sent to a GigaStor appliance for back-in-time analysis or the Observer Reporting Server for enterprise-wide performance reports. "There are a lot of new challenges around managing virtual environments that concern network teams," said Jim Frey, research director of Enterprise Management Associates. "One of the biggest involves visibility. While VMware and Microsoft have products that provide help in configuring and basic monitoring of virtual machines (VMs) on a host server, they fall far short of delivering the full context required to understand how VMs are working together and how they fit within the broader IT server delivery infrastructure. Network Instruments solutions provide visibility and analysis that answer several of the key challenges preventing many from fully embracing server virtualization." Complete Performance Tracking Central to any performance monitoring effort is the ability to monitor seamlessly across physical and virtualized environments. Using the Observer platform, VMware users obtain enterprise-wide views of virtualized resources and performance within all environments. "Network managers using VMware can leverage the Observer platform to ensure complete performance coverage and analysis," said Richard Alme, business development manager for Network Instruments. "Our solutions offer a unique view of network performance allowing users to track traffic and applications in any environment. Observer"s in-depth application metrics make it easier to identify the cause of performance problems, while Observer"s Expert Analysis automates the troubleshooting process, ultimately reducing mean time to resolution."
