Mobo makers do not expect dual-core CPUs to boost sales.

Although the expected buzz at the upcoming Computex Taipei 2005 show from May 31 to June 4 will be the competing dual-core desktop CPU offerings from Intel and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), motherboard vendors have warned that the new processors may not help motherboard sales in the short-term.

Nano-optical switches to restore sight.
Californian researchers are now using light to control biological nanomolecules and proteins. They think it can help them to develop treatments for eye diseases, such as the loss of the light detectors in the retina which is a major cause of blindness. So they envision to put some of their nano-photoswitches in the cells of the retina, "restoring light sensitivity in people with degenerative blindness such as macular degeneration."

Intel And Asustek Expect High Growth For Low-cost PC Market.
Intel expects low-cost PC shipments (including those for Internet-centric devices such as netbooks and nettops) to break 100 million units between 2008-2011, while Asustek president Jerry Shen expects the market to see shipments of 10 million units in 2008, and 20 million in 2009. Intel has told notebook makers it forecasts both netbook and nettop products are to see double-digit growth annually in 2008-2011, with netbook total shipments from 2008-2011 to reach 47 million units and those for nettops to reach 60 million, according to industry sources.
