Large-size Panel Shipments Increase 6.7% In 2Q, Says WitsView.

Taipei (Taiwan) - Global aggregated large-size panel shipments in the second quarter of 2008 reached 110.8 million units, a quarter-on-quarter increase of 6.7% and a year-on-year growth of 22.4%, according to WitsView. The growth mainly stemmed from increases in IT panel shipments, especially the notebook segment, where shipments jumped 12.9% to 35.4 million units. Monitor panels were up quarterly by 5.5% to 51.6 million units.

High-luminance LED face slow growth in 2005.
The global production value of high-luminance LEDs is projected to grow only 5% on year in 2005, following 37% growth last year, according to Strategies Unlimited, a leading market research firm for the high-luminance LED and GaN markets. The slow growth is due to stable demand for mobile phones and slower penetration of new applications including LCD TV-use backlighting, said the market research firm.

Several Taiwan-based panel makers are planning to roll out new TV panels for the entry-level segment based on twisted nematic (TN) technology in the second half of this year, with the goal of boosting demand in developing markets for 30" and-under TV panels, sources said.
