Texas Instruments DLP Cinema announced today at ShoWest that IMAX will incorporate the DLP Cinema projector solution. Under the terms of the agreement, each IMAX Digital projection system to be deployed to commercial exhibitors around the world, scheduled to begin mid-2008, will be powered by DLP Cinema projectors.

GPS can help give early warning of tsunamis.

Using GPS (global positioning system) data to measure how points on land move following an undersea earthquake could help geologists decide if the tremor will cause an ocean-wide tsunami. Combined with existing tsunami warning systems, the data could speed up decisions about whether to issue an alert and avoid false alarms, say US researchers.

Austin (TX) - When security software engineer Mark Russinovich was testing last week one of his programs called RootkitRevealer, on a system he normally expects to be free of malicious code, he noticed that it revealed a hidden directory, and several hidden files. Inside were what appeared to be device drivers, with .SYS and .DLL extensions, and one hidden executable .EXE file. These weren"t hidden by the normal means - for instance, setting the old DOS "Hidden" attribute - but by cleverly diverting system calls used to identify themselves to Windows.
