Dell"s Mini 5 uses the Arm-based Snapdragon CPU -- the same CPU powering Google"s Nexus One phone.
Earlier this month, Dell revealed its rather small tablet-like device called the Mini 5. As Electronista points out, it"s a step up from the previously-announced Mini 3 mobile phone, sporting a 5-inch screen and multi-touch functions. Unfortunately, Dell didn"t provide any real specs on the upcoming device outside varying colors (pink, black, red). However, the curious Tinhte.com took the device apart to see what"s really under the hood.
How Tinhte acquired the device is unknown, but this video shows its apparent disassembly, sporting a 5-megapixel camera, two microSD memory card slots, a SIM card slot, and a 1,530mAh battery. The device is also powered by Qualcomm"s 1 GHz Arm-based Snapdragon CPU; the Nexus One, Sony Ericsson"s XPERIA X10, and Lenovo"s upcoming 10-inch mobile HD device also use a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.
Currently the device is using Google"s Android 1.6--it"s assumed that it"s a customized version of the open-sourced OS for Dell. Outside the camera seen in the video, the Dell Mini 5 supposedly offers a second 5-megapixel camera located on the front. Dell also revealed that the device will ship with a headset--most likely Bluetooth--to prevent users from holding the over-sized device next to their ears. Could the Dell Mini 5 be used for voice functions as well?
