Core Duo Mac performance only 10 - 25% faster.

Backing up our story this morning about whether Core Duo-based Mac users will perceive the "2 - 3x" performance improvement in their software, Macworld is reporting this afternoon that in its own tests with native (compiled for Intel) Mac applications, performance improvements were only in the 10 - 25% range. Apple"s much-publicized test scores for the new iMac were made with programs designed specifically to generate test results. So they may give some indication of the overall performance potential of these systems. However, such test results often don"t match up to what regular users see in their everyday work - i.e., the speed of real-world applications. (Macworld)

PS3 Expected To Remain The Main Force Behind Blu-ray Sales.
Chicago (IL) - The Entertainment Merchants Association (EMA) released its 2008 annual report with a wealth of data revealing the most trends in TV, home video and video gaming segments. The flood of data reveals that video game publishers are closing in on the revenue of stagnating home video sales, Blu-ray looked like the losing HD format in 2006, but was able to reverse the trend thanks to the PS3 in 2007, Microsoft has sold 316,000 now useless HD DVD add-ons for its Xbox 360 console and the average person now spends $310 on movie and game entertainment per year.

Next month, Spike TV will broadcast the third annual Video Game Awards on December 10th. To get a preview of the VGAs we went to the taping of the show over the past weekend, held in Los Angeles (of course) at the Gibson Amphitheater inside the Universal Citywalk entertainment complex.
